Social Worker | London & Hampshire (Remote)

As a Love146 Social Worker, you will assist the safeguarding of children and young people trafficked from abroad, support the implementation of the Love146 Immediate Safety Plan and the Love146 Safety Plan Reduction Programme where needed. You will also be responsible for preparing, implementing and reviewing Individual Intervention Plans for each young person, and to work with young people in our care and support them through the section 47 Child Protection investigation process and any associated criminal investigations.

You will be expected to contribute towards the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) for Trafficked Victims, and help young people navigate the Asylum and NRM processes. This will include attending all appropriate meetings, writing detailed case notes and reports, and working within local authority frameworks and child protection procedures. Attendance at all Children Looked After reviews is essential. Flexibility in working hours will be required. Will have excellent assessment skills, and be experienced in advocating for, and on behalf of, the best interests of children and young people.

This role involves being at the fore-front of meeting the everyday needs of vulnerable young people that have been trafficked into and within the UK. Social Workers must be registered, and pass background clearances. Our most successful Social Workers are open-minded, dependable, patient. Having a flexible schedule, being tolerant and demonstrating the ability to work as a member of our team are all important qualities.

This position is home-based. The successful candidate therefore must be able to privately access the internet. A laptop & phone will be provided.

Responsibilities 

For Service Users

  • To work with children and young people on a one to one or group basis, using a variety of interventions, to identify needs and to achieve positive outcomes
  • To work cooperatively with children’s services, health agencies, the police and ports authorities and other community based services, to provide the most effective service for trafficked children / young people
  • To take responsibility for sharing expertise and knowledge with service peers and colleagues 
  • To contribute to service development
  • To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures and legislation relevant to human trafficking
  • To adjust role in line with new policies and procedures which emerge from statutory partners or Love146

For Resources

  • To share responsibility for equipment / resources linked to service delivery
  • To ensure case notes are being recorded and shared appropriately, contributing to report writing and producing and keeping management informed
  • To continue personal development and training as necessary

For Health and Safety

  • To promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment

Essential Requirements

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Qualified Social Worker
  • Awareness of factors impacting on and issues facing children/young people who have been trafficked
  • Knowledge and experience of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the trafficking of young people

Experience

  • Experience of working cross culturally with at risk children and young people
  • Experience of applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures
  • Experience of writing reports and collating data

Skills

  • Ability to listen to and communicate effectively with children, young people and professionals
  • Ability to work with groups of children / young people
  • Ability to work as part of a wider team
  • Ability to accurately and clearly record case notes, information and data deploying the necessary standard of writing and IT skills
  • Ability to analyse and resolve problems occurring in relation to service users
  • Ability to know when to escalate a concern to a manager
  • Ability to carry out a range of competing tasks with tight time scales and prioritise
  • Ability to apply Love146 and The Local Authority safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Some knowledge of working with interpreters
  • Ability to work alone using own initiative and being self-motivated
